GATHERING

CALL TO WORSHIP

In You, O Lord, I seek refuge;

Let me never be put to shame;

In your righteousness, deliver me!

Incline your ear to me,

Rescue me speedily!

Be a rock of refuge for me,

a strong fortress to save me!

I will rejoice and be glad in your steadfast love,

Because you have seen my affliction,

and have taken heed of my adversities.

You have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy;

You have set my feet in a broad place.

My times are in your hand;

Deliver me from the hand of my enemies and persecutors.

Let your face shine on your servant;

Save me through your steadfast love!

HYMN “The Church’s One Foundation” #545 UMH

Opening Prayer

Holy Giver of new life, you fill the world with your glory,

shining through the countless petals of primrose and petunia,

the heady scent of honeysuckle and lavender,

the ongoing chorus of robin and cardinal and wren.

In this world of overwhelming abundance and overwhelming need,

you have called us to feel your life flowing through us,

to be transformed into a dwelling place, a spiritual house

for Jesus Christ,

who is your chosen and precious cornerstone.

We are your people, called out of darkness into your marvelous light.

Be with us in this hour, for we trust that you are the way, the truth and the life. Amen.

God of Love, we thank you

for all with which you have blessed us

even to this day:

for the gift of joys in the days of health and strength

and for the gifts of your abiding presence and promise

in the days of pain and grief.

We praise you for home and friends,

And for our baptism and place in your Church

With all who have faithfully lived and died.

Above all else we thank you for Jesus,

GATHERING

CALL TO WORSHIP

O give thanks to the Lord, who is good,

whose steadfast love endures forever.

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,

whom the Lord has redeemed from trouble.

Some wandered in the desert wastes,

Finding no way to a city in which to dwell;

Hungry and thirsty,

their soul fainted within them.

Then in their trouble, they cried to the Lord,

who delivered them from their distress,

And led them by a straight way,

till they reached a city in which to dwell.

Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,

for his wonderful works to humankind.

For the Lord satisfies those who are thirsty,

and fills the hungry with good things.

HYMN “To God be the Glory” #98 UMH

Opening Prayer

Almighty God, through your only Son you overcame death

And opened to us the gate of everlasting life.

Grant that we who celebrate our Lord’s resurrection,

by the renewing of your Spirit,

arise from death of sin to the life of righteousness;

through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING

Thank you, Creator of the Universe,

For the people gathered around us today.

We give thanks for the things of the earth that give us the means of life.

Thank you for the plants, animals, and birds

That we use as food and medicine.

Thank you for the natural world,

In which we find the means to be clothed and housed.

Thank you, Lord, for the ability

to use these gifts of the natural world.

Help us to see our place among these gifts,

Not to squander them or think of them as means for selfish gain.

May we respect the life you all you have made.

May our spirits be strengthened by using only what we need,

And may we use our strengths to help those who need us. Amen.
