Proposal: Named Engraved Brick Pathway at Hamburg UMC
We are exploring the possibility of creating a named engraved brick pathway at Hamburg United Methodist Church—and we’d love to hear your thoughts!
Our church community has been built over generations through the love, dedication, and service of countless members—past and present. This proposed pathway would serve as a lasting tribute, honoring the legacy of those who have helped shape our faith community and providing a meaningful way to preserve our shared history.
The idea is inspired by a similar project I helped coordinate at the Silver Lake Institute in 2012. That pathway now includes over 200 engraved bricks, each telling its own story.
Here’s how it worked:
Initial Installation: The pathway was first constructed using blank bricks by T&R Seasonal Services of Orchard Park. Once installed, engraved bricks replaced the blanks as they were purchased.
Ongoing Additions: Smaller batches of new bricks were added over time by community members.
Brick Format: Each brick can accommodate up to three lines of text with 13 characters per line. The engraving is filled in black for visibility.
Personal Touches: Buyers submitted a short bio that accompanied a photo of the brick purchased. These were compiled in a keepsake binder and shared online.
Cost: Bricks were offered at $75 for the first and $50 for each additional brick, which covered engraving and installation costs—not for profit.
For Hamburg UMC, we could follow a similar model. Potential locations for the pathway include the heated entrance to the Gathering Space or the walkway to the outdoor pavilion. We are currently gauging interest before moving forward.
I have spoken with Pastor David, Rick Park (Trustees), and Gerry Schneggenburger (Church Council), and all are supportive of exploring this further. I would be honored to take an active role in helping bring this project to life, with final details to be determined by a committee.
If you’re interested in this idea, or have thoughts to share, please let us know! Your input will help guide our next steps.
What do you think about this project?
I like it- I would be interested in purchasing a brick
I like it- I WOULD NOT be interested in purchasing a brick
I do not like it
With appreciation,
Bob Cook

Let’s Lend a Hand: Support the Kenmore UMC HUB Flood Bucket Ministry
As part of the United Methodist connection, Hamburg United Methodist Church is proud to support the incredible work being done at the Kenmore UMC HUB, where disaster relief supplies are assembled and shipped to communities in need.
This past fall, Kenmore UMC sent out 448 flood buckets on 9 pallets to hurricane-impacted areas in the South. In January, klocal youth assembled 127 additional buckets, bringing the current inventory to 200 flood buckets ready to go when disaster strikes.
But the need continues — and another 100-bucket assembly day is planned for June. Supplies are running low, and this is where we can help.
