Farewell Letter to Supporters of Seneca Street U.M. Church
May 1,2026
Dear Friends and Supporters of Seneca Street UMC,
The times are a changing in our walk together with Seneca Street United Methodist Church. This church continues to be involved in the Seneca Babcock area providing love and a beacon of hope and light in many ways. Thank you for your continued kindness, partnerships, and funds in dedication to Seneca Street Church ministry. Beginning July 1, it is time for me to move into new adventures in Rochester to serve as the Pastor of Nurture Ministries at Asbury 1st UMC.
At the heart of Seneca Street Church are its people deeply rooted in the neighborhood where everyone has various needs. Church leadership people are from the neighborhood and have discovered purpose in loving and serving their neighbors, standing with them through life’s challenges. The church people have found purpose in feeding our neighbors in belly and soul. As Pastor, my ministry has been to love and serve in many ways. For many years the church has rented the building 5 days a week to Pastor Brian and Cheryl for the non profit CDC. This organization cares for community needs with staff and volunteers providing for all ages as they have for many years. The Community Development Corporation provides the after-school program and provides support in many ways to help people in the community. They will continue to serve the neighborhood out of the church building providing resources for all ages. They are not ministry of the church but we work together to provide a safe space for all ages to improve self-worth and education and spiritual formation.
I am confident that the seeds we have planted together will continue to grow and bear fruit. I encourage you to remain steadfast in your support for this mission church, trusting that God will lead and guide the church community forward in new ways. Prayers are needed as the church moves into a part time pastor appointment due to financial challenges. The church continues to provide spiritual support and food ministry three days a week and will need support to continue the ministry.
May God bless you as we all move forward in supporting this mission opportunity that impacts lives in many ways. The strength of this church lies in its people from the neighborhood, who have found purpose in loving and serving their neighbors while journeying alongside them through difficult times. We need you to continue to support it.
With gratitude and love,
Pastor Dee Finch

ANNOUNCEMENTS
CALL TO WORSHIP
Almighty God, you have raised up servants to proclaim the gift of redemption and a life of holiness.
For our spiritual forebears, Susanna, John, and Charles Wesley; Barbara Heck, Jacob Albright, Philip William Otterbein, and Martin Boehm, inspired by your Spirit, we give thanks.
In their ministry, through their difficulties, and in spite of their weaknesses,
you were their hope and their salvation.
You led them and their followers to create the heritage that is ours.
We praise you for the women and men, young and old, who followed them, who gave themselves unselfishly for the welfare of the Church, whose commitment and vision encouraged and supported the Church.
Their talents, enthusiasm, idealism, and dedication infused the Church with energy.
Their outstanding gifts and witness shaped our thought and life. We praise you for these countless members of your Church, whose names we now remember.
Silence is kept to remember the names of saints.
And we give you thanks for the place of our rich tradition among the churches which comprise the Body of Christ.
With all your people throughout creation, give us a new vision, new love, new wisdom, and fresh understanding, that we may serve you more fully; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
OPENING HYMN: “Spirit of Faith, Come Down” #332 UMH
OPENING PRAYER
O God, you sent the Holy Spirit to enkindle the zeal of Christ’s followers waiting in Jerusalem for his promised gift. Pour the same inspiration on your people here assembled, and on the Church of Christ throughout the world. Revive the power of the gospel in our hearts, that it may be to us a sacred trust for the blessing of all creation. Enable your Church to spread the good news of salvation, so that all nations may heart it in their own tongues, and welcome it into their own lives.
Protect, encourage, and bless all ministers of the cross, and prosper their words and works, so that Jesus, being lifted up, may draw all people unto him, and the kingdoms of the world may become the Kingdom of our Lord and of Jesus. Amen.
