Granny finished cleaning her attic

how are you doing with your treasures?

Granny’s finished collecting treasures from her attic—and you should be collecting too! It’s time to start gathering those clean, gently used household items that she’ll proudly display and sell at this year’s Bazaar.

Important Reminder from Granny:

She’s tough but fair—only clean, usable household goods will be accepted.

No appliances, please!

Room 19 is now open for donations.

This year’s Annual Bazaar, hosted by the United Women in Faith and supported by the whole church, will be held November 7 & 8. In addition to all your favorite traditions—like the bake sale, pecans and fruitcakes, and the soup and chili sale—this year’s event will also feature an expanded vendor fair in place of the usual HUWF crafts.

Questions? Contact Bazaar Co-Chairs: Rose Caldwell or Sue Gagne.

Ongoing Fundraiser Little Lamb Fundraiser:

Please consider donating your empty bottles and cans to the Bottle & Can Redemption Center at 4255 Clark Street in Hamburg. Thank you!

Join our Communion team.

Bring your passion for baking to our Communion bread-baking group and connect with like-minded individuals! Our six-week rotation schedule allows for flexibility and we provide a contact sheet to facilitate communication. If you're unavailable on your scheduled date, simply arrange a switch with a fellow member.

To join, contact Sue Gagne at 716-648-3460.

Join Us in Reading Through the Bible in 2025

Would you consider reading through the Bible in 2025? Together as a church community, we can embark on this yearlong journey of faith and discovery. A Bible in a Year reading plan is available outside the church office and will also be published monthly in the newsletter. You can also access it online here: Bible in a year reading plan

Dedicating about 20 minutes a day to Scripture is a wonderful way to grow closer to God. Many who have done this discipline before share how it reveals surprising connections between different parts of the Bible and provides a deeper understanding of God’s love and guidance.

We hope you’ll join us on this meaningful journey of faith and exploration!

Choir Season Begins 🎶

We are pleased to announce the beginning of a new choir season on Sunday, September 7, 2025. On that morning, the choir will lead the congregation in hymn singing, and beginning the following week, we will add anthems to our worship services.

Our church choir is a ministry of music and fellowship, welcoming singers of all experience levels. Whether you are an accomplished vocalist or someone who simply enjoys singing, you will find a supportive and uplifting environment in which to share your voice. No audition is required—only a love for music and a desire to contribute to the worship life of the church.

Rehearsals are held each Sunday morning from 9:00–9:45 a.m. upstairs in the choir rehearsal room.  We warmly encourage members of the congregation and the wider community to join us. Friends, family, and neighbors are also most welcome.

Together, let us offer the gift of song and glorify God through music.

For additional information, please speak with Jeannine VanWey following the service, or contact her at vanwey@roadrunner.com / 716-680-3245.

We look forward to beginning a joyful season of music together.

Ring in the Joy: Handbell Choir Season Begins 🔔

The beginning of a new season is the perfect time to consider joining our Handbell Choir at Hamburg United Methodist Church. The distinctive chime of the bells, their rich harmonies, and the fellowship of making music together make this ministry a meaningful and cherished part of our worship life.

Why Handbells?Handbells are not only instruments but also an expression of faith and community. Playing in the Handbell Choir provides:

  • Musical Fulfillment: Whether you are an experienced musician or a complete beginner, ringing handbells offers the joy of learning beautiful music and the satisfaction of playing together as a team.

  • Fellowship and Connection: The Handbell Choir is a supportive, close-knit group that values both music and friendship.

  • Accessibility: No prior experience is required. Each ringer begins with just a few bells, and guidance is provided every step of the way.

Rehearsals and Participation

  • Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings from 7:00–8:00 p.m., October through May, in the bell room upstairs.

  • We are flexible with schedules and have substitute ringers available when members cannot attend a performance.

  • Membership at HUMC is not required—friends, family, and neighbors are warmly invited to participate. We are a no-pressure group, and those interested are welcome to “try it out” without obligation.

How to Join If you would like to learn more or are interested in participating, please contact Jeannine VanWey, Handbell Choir Director, after worship or at 716-680-3245 / vanwey@roadrunner.com. You are also welcome to visit a rehearsal to see if this ministry is right for you.

We look forward to ringing in a joyful new season together.

        NATIVE AMERICAN MINISTRIES SUNDAY

Supporting the Ministry of Christ Among Native People

Sunday September 14, 2025

Most Americans today recognize that the history following the arrival of the people “pale as birch” who crossed the great water in large canoes bore little resemblance to the one all Christians identify as Creator. That’s why the people of The United Methodist Church, Native and non-Native, are creating a new history. Through Native American Ministries Sunday, we’re able to equip and empower Native American pastors, congregations (like our friends at Four Corners UMC), and seminary students to do what only they can do: authentically worship and serve Jesus.

As a member of The United Methodist Church, your gift, on Native American Ministries Sunday, equips Native congregations to worship and serve as only they can.  This work and hundreds of other ministries are possible because you give.  When you support Native American Ministries Sunday, you equip seminary students who will honor and celebrate Native American culture in their ministries, and you empower congregations that are finding fresh new ways to minister to their communities with the love of Christ.

Dr. Richard Twiss, a member of the Sicangu Lakota Oyate from the Rosebud Sioux Reservation in South Dakota, asked: “Will we be allowed to develop new ways of doing church that honor God’s purposes for the creative expression of our cultures? Will new ministry partnerships and coalitions form? Will you help be a part of this wonderful process of reconciliation, restoration, and release?”

Say yes with your offering and prayer support on Sunday, September 14 or any time thereafter.  Offering envelopes will be available on the table with the announcement sheets, next to the offering plate in the sanctuary and at the Welcome Center.  You may use electronic giving, your personal check, or cash.

Join us for a virtual fellowship! This group is a place to share prayer requests, devotions, concerns, joys, and even some humor with your church family. Join the Hamburg UMC Fellowship group on Facebook.

PRAYER CONCERNS?

If you would like someone added to our church prayer list, call or text Barb Meader at 716-548-4139 or email her at bmeader712017@gmail.com, or contact anyone who is a Prayer, Care, and Share member, or Cristina in the church office. Our ministry is to pray daily for the concerns that have been shared with us.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”   (Phillipians 4:4-7)
