Can you help us out?

Homespun Holiday Bazaar returns

Nov. 7-8 after one-year break

We are so excited to reaffirm that, yes, the Homespun Holiday Bazaar, hosted by the United Women in Faith (UWF), is back! It will be held Friday, Nov. 7 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. As always, proceeds benefit ministries in our church, our Hamburg community and across Western New York. Some years we have contributed to the church’s budget as well. Last year $7,000 was contributed to 16 organizations following the 2023 bazaar. Can we match that success this year?

We are hosting 15 community vendors for your holiday shopping pleasure! There also will be handcrafted items from our UWF and church members. We will have a large Granny's Attic area; lots of delectable baked goods including pies, cookies, coffee cakes and more, and our famous pecans and fruitcake for sale.

Also returning is the soup sale – chicken noodle, vegetable beef and chili will be for sale in 16 oz. takeout containers. It will be for sale (cold) on the days of the bazaar (no pre-sale).

Before we get ready to shop though, we need to prepare for the big event:

- We appreciate the many donations already appearing in the Room 19 in the basement of high quality, clean garage sale items for Granny's Attic. We can handle a few more, but we encourage you to get them in ASAP. Thank you.

- We would love the help of youngish, able-bodied folks who would have an hour or so spare here and there. This involves moving items in preparation for bazaar setup, likely on a Sunday after service. Then there will be a time to set up tables and then to “break down” the bazaar. Please watch for sign-up sheets on the counter in the Gathering Space in the coming weeks.

- Of course, if you love to bake, anyone is welcome to donate home baked goods. You don’t need to be a UWF member!

Thank you for your help with the Homespun Holiday Bazaar in years past – you are loving your neighbor by doing so! We look forward to the return of the bazaar and the fun and holiday spirit it provides!

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL

John Meader’s adult Sunday School class continues with Adam Hamilton’s book and DVD entitled “The Call” about the life and message of Paul. Books will be provided and all are welcome to come join in the discussion each Sunday in the parlor at 9am.

Granny finished cleaning her attic

how are you doing with your treasures?

Granny’s finished collecting treasures from her attic—and you should be collecting too! It’s time to start gathering those clean, gently used household items that she’ll proudly display and sell at this year’s Bazaar.

Important Reminder from Granny:

She’s tough but fair—only clean, usable household goods will be accepted.

No appliances, please!

Room 19 is now open for donations.

This year’s Annual Bazaar, hosted by the United Women in Faith and supported by the whole church, will be held November 7 & 8. In addition to all your favorite traditions—like the bake sale, pecans and fruitcakes, and the soup and chili sale—this year’s event will also feature an expanded vendor fair in place of the usual HUWF crafts.

Questions? Contact Bazaar Co-Chairs: Rose Caldwell or Sue Gagne.

 Join Us in Reading Through the Bible in 2025

Would you consider reading through the Bible in 2025? Together as a church community, we can embark on this yearlong journey of faith and discovery. A Bible in a Year reading plan is available outside the church office and will also be published monthly in the newsletter. You can also access it online here: Bible in a year reading plan

Dedicating about 20 minutes a day to Scripture is a wonderful way to grow closer to God. Many who have done this discipline before share how it reveals surprising connections between different parts of the Bible and provides a deeper understanding of God’s love and guidance.

We hope you’ll join us on this meaningful journey of faith and exploration!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP

Give thanks to the Lord; Call upon his name,

Make known his deeds among the peoples!

Sing to him, sing praises to him;

 Tell of all his wondrous works!

Glory in his holy name;

 Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!

Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his presence continually!

OPENING HYMN: “"Lord, I Want to Be a Christian" #402 UMH

OPENING PRAYER:

Lord Jesus, receive me just as I am. I confess my self-interest, my lack of compassion, my slowness to hear and respond to the needs of others. We confess our readiness to settle for less than the best together, our practice of not setting a higher goal in serving you. Ready us now, and make me ready now, to serve you with my whole heart, and to put you first in all. In Jesus' name and for his name we pray. AMEN
