Friday Flash 9/30/22

Hamburg United Methodist Church

116 Union St

Hamburg, New York, 14075

(716) 649-8080

Worship Sundays at 10 am

From your Missions Team: Food collections for September and October will go to SS. Peter and Paul Food Pantry in Hamburg. The pantry is part of the network of the Food Bank of WNY whose mission is to “obtain nutritious food and support from public and private sources, and efficiently distribute these resources to the hungry in Western New York through our member agencies.”

It may come as a surprise to some of us, but there are hungry people right here in

our neighborhoods. Hearty non-perishables will be gratefully received in the basket in the gathering space. Let’s keep the needs of those who suffer from hunger ever before us as we seek to serve Jesus in the world.

From the Family of David Wade

Many, many thanks to the HUMC congregation for caring for us in our time of tremendous loss. We are grateful for your prayers.

Our family is deeply appreciative of all the love, kindness, and hospitality extended to us following David's death. Every kind word spoken, the many loving cards, and hugs too numerous to count have helped us as we grieve.

Special thanks to Pastor David, Jeannine, Jim, Cristina, Patrick, and the funeral committee for a lovely funeral service and reception under difficult circumstances.

Much love,

Lynda and Jon Sentz & family

Homespun Holiday Bazaar Nov. 4-5;

Helpers of all Kinds are Needed!

The annual Homespun Holiday Bazaar is planned for Friday, Nov. 4 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 5 this fall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. featuring crafts, baked goods, community vendors, the book sale and the return of the takeout lunch. Profits will benefit ministries supporting women and children here and across the world.

We would appreciate help of all kinds from all ages (and genders) of our HUMC members, loved ones and HUMC friends to make this event a success:

  • Save the date: Sunday, Oct. 30 (right after service) to help move items in preparation for setup of the bazaar.

  • During the week of the bazaar, help will be needed with table setup.

  • Help is needed with final setup assisting vendors and posting signs, for example, on Friday, Nov. 4.

  • Finally, with a big event like this, a cleanup crew is always needed! This will be on Sunday, Nov. 13.

Please see the signup sheets in the Gathering Area to let us know how and where you want to pitch in and make this work light!

You can also contact Rose Caldwell (716) 713-9548 or Sharon Tiballi (716) 980-6171 anytime to let them know you would like to help.

Thank you for serving Christ in this way!

WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY

Sunday, October 2 is being celebrated around the world as World Communion Sunday by many Christian denominations. As a part of this celebration, the United Methodist Church receives a special offering that is designated for scholarships for youth and young adults who are facing financial obstacles that make higher education difficult or impossible. Offering envelopes will be available with the offering plate in the sanctuary. Others may include this offering electronically or in whatever way you give. Offerings may be given any time in October.

It is time to collect your "treasures" for Granny's Attic and deliver them to Room 19. Items should be in good condition. If you have any questions, contact Judy Engberg, Carolyn Schneggenburger or Barbara Lockwood

GREAT THANKSGIVING

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

...And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven

we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,

Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

...And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ,

we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving

as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ's offering for us,

as we proclaim the mystery of faith.

Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.

...Through your Son Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in your holy Church,

all honor and glory is yours, almighty Father (God ), now and for ever. Amen.
