Dear Saints,
June has been busy for me, both personally and in the life of the Church. By the time you read this, Abraham and I will have made a series of college visits (hard to believe he’ll be a senior this September!), I’ll have attended an ordination for an old friend and led quarterly worship and business in Gowanda. Of course, there’s been a lot going on beyond that.
I want to take this opportunity to mention the state of the parsonage project. After the interior deconstruction, a series of structural challenges were discovered. It appears that a portion of the home was originally a small structure, later added on to, and leveling the floors might be a challenge in the kitchen and lower dining/bedroom area. As such, the Trustees and Parsonage Committee are exploring the feasibility of renovating or potentially demolishing and replacing the structure. If the latter, it will likely mean running over our original cost projections. We will explore budget-neutral solutions that will avoid the need for a mortgage if at all possible, allowing us to continue to develop effective ministry with the community without worrying about a long-term encumbrance on the property.
Regardless of the outcome of this process, we are blessed to have a property with such proximity to Hamburg UMC to house pastors for generations to come. The Trustees and Parsonage Committee are committed to presenting HUMC with a plan for a low-maintenance, efficient, and comfortable home for your pastor today and your pastors in the future. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with a good team of folks to determine how best to move forward together.
Summer is coming! We expect an All-Churches Worship and Picnic in Versailles on August 4, and any golfers will look forward to HUMANGO August 18. Look forward to September, when we will dedicate Hamburg’s now completed stained glass sanctuary windows!
Beyond this, the ministries of our congregations are bearing fruit! There’s much to be excited about together!
Serving the Risen Christ, with you,
Pastor David Nicol

Rick reported on what work will take place on the parsonage. The furnace will be replaced and air conditioning added. Once the house has been gutted new electric lines, water lines and foam insulation will be installed. DEAR CHURCH MEMBERS
Once again, we are looking forward to having a fun and successful HUMANGO fundraising event on Sunday, August 18, 2024. Your participation and donations will help make this a success.
We would appreciate individuals and groups of the church putting together a themed Raffle Basket (value of $50) or providing a $50 gift certificate to an area restaurant or business. Completed baskets, with shrink-wrap bags and bows, are greatly appreciated, but we can complete it with the clear bag and bow if you cannot. Please label your basket with the group or individual’s name who is donating. We want to ensure donors are recognized on the dinner placemat at the HUMANGO event at Byrncliff Golf Resort.
All baskets and gift certificates need to be left at the church by August 1,
or given to Pat Adema, (716) 206-4687 or Sue Gagne, (716) 200-8996.
Completed baskets, labeled with the donor’s name and “For HUMANGO,” can be left on the shelf in the coat room or the labeled box for HUMANGO.
Thank you very much for your donations and support!

PRAYER CONCERNS?
If you would like to request prayer for yourself or for someone else you may call Barb Meader at home (number 716-648-1273), call or text her cell (number716-548-4139), or call Cristina at the church office (716-649-8080), and we will add your request to the weekly prayer list. “Prayer, Care and Share” is a group of people who have committed to pray every day for requests made. An updated list of requests is emailed to members each Monday. In an emergency, you can call and we will relay the request immediately using our phone chain.
Members also pray daily for and send out cards of encouragement monthly to our homebound members and those living in nursing homes. We send cards to those experiencing lengthy illnesses. On the first Wednesday of each month, PCS meets at church at 10:0am in the library.
James 5:16 says “…Pray for one another”.
Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
If you would like to be a part of this daily prayer ministry or have questions about it, talk to Barb or another member. If you know of someone in our church family who would appreciate receiving a card of encouragement or get well, please let Barb know.
