GATHERING
CALL TO WORSHIP
Is someone here moving toward the twilight of life
and fearful of that which we call death?
Why be afraid? God is able.
Is someone here on the brink of despair
because of the death of a loved one,
the breaking of a marriage,
or the waywardness of a child?
Why despair?
God is able to give us the power
to endure that which cannot be changed.
Is someone here anxious because of bad health?
Why be anxious?
Come what may, God is able.
Surely God is able.

OPENING PRAYER
O Lord my God, I thank thee that thou hast brought this day to its close.
I thank thee that thou dost give rest to body and soul.
Thy hand has been over me, guarding and preserving me.
Forgive my feeble faith and all the wrong I have done this day,
and help me to forgive all who have wronged me.
Grant that I may sleep in peace beneath thy care,
and defend me from the temptations of darkness.
Into thy hands I commend my loved ones,
I commend this household,
I commend my body and soul.
O God, thy holy name be praised. Amen.

All things come from you, O God, and with gratitude we return to you what is yours. You create all that is, and with love formed us in your image. When our love failed, your love remained steadfast. You gave your only Son Jesus Christ to be our Savior. All that we are, and all that we have, is a trust from you. And so, in gratitude for all your gifts, we offer you ourselves, and all that we have, in union with Christ’s offering for us. By your Holy Spirit make us one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
