CALL TO WORSHIP

You asked for my hands,

That you might use them for your purpose.

I gave them for a moment, then withdrew them,

For the work was hard.

You asked for my mouth

To speak out against injustice.

I gave you a whisper that I might not be accused.

You asked for my eyes

To see the pain of poverty.

I closed them, for I did not want to see.

You asked for my life,

That you might work through me.

I gave a small part, that I might not get too involved.

Lord, forgive my calculated efforts to serve you-

Only when it is convenient for me to do so,

Only in those places where it is safe to do so,

Only with those who make it easy to do so.

Father, forgive me,

Renew me, send me out

As a usable instrument,

That I might take seriously

The meaning of your cross. Amen.

OPENING PRAYER Almighty God,

On this day your Son Jesus Christ entered the holy city of Jerusalem

And was proclaimed King

By those who spread their garments and palm branches along his way.

Let those branches be for us signs of his victory,

May ever hail him as our Lord,

And follow him in the way that leads to eternal life.

O God, most merciful and gracious,

And advance the kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

For the decisions before us, Lord

Make plain your way.

For the actions our decisions require,

Grant us courage and resolve.

For those touched by the decisions we make,

Fill us with compassion and guide us with your wisdom.

In the name of Jesus Christ, in whom we live, lead, and pray.

Amen

OPENING PRAYER We long for the days when the New Covenant is fulfilled, O God!

We long to see Jesus, to live in a world where your ways are written on hearts;

we long for a world drawn to Jesus, so all might be made right.

We come together, week by week, year by year, to see again the Son of Man glorified.

Help us, Lord God, to see hope and mercy in the Crucified One,

and to live by the power we receive in Jesus and in his name.

This we pray in the name of the same Jesus, Lord and Savior of the world. Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP

In comparison with this big world, the human heart is only a small thing.

Though the world is so large, it is utterly unable to satisfy this tiny heart.

The ever-growing soul and its capacity can be satisfied only in the infinite God.

As water is restless until it reaches its level, so the soul has no peace until it rests in God.

Thou has made us for thyself O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they find rest in thee.

OPENING PRAYER Almighty God, we come trusting that the eyes of our hearts have seen salvation!

As Moses lifted the serpent in the desert, and those afflicted who looked up were healed,

we have looked up, and we have seen Jesus!

Continue to draw us, by the power of the Holy Spirit,

to the one who lifted up draws the world to himself.

Continue to shape us, to form us, that we might be found in Christ.

Today, and each day, use us,

that in us the world might be drawn to Christ,

in whom we find life and salvation.

This we pray, in the name of Christ Jesus, our crucified and risen Savior. Amen
